The IET800 module is a stand-alone printed circuit board to which an Ethernet daughter board (for Ethernet over TCP/IP communication) connects. The IET800 module occupies one slot in the MMU. This board contains microprocessor-based communication circuitry that allows direct communication with the NIS21 module by interfacing with the I/O expander bus.
The IET800 module has three card edge connectors (P1, P2, and P3) for external signals and power. Connector P1 connects to utility power and +5 VDC power. Connector P2 connects the IET800 module to the I/O expander bus for communication with the NIS21 module. Control and data signals are connected from the IET800 module to the host computer.
The IET800 module supports Ethernet host connections over TCP/IP or RS-232-C. When communicating via the RS-232-C port, the module operates as either Data Communications Equipment (DCE) or Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). For RS-232-C computer interface, the module cable connects to the NTMP01 terminal unit and the Process Bus Adapter (PBA). The terminal unit has two RS-232-C ports. The NTMP01 jumper setting determines DTE or DCE behavior. For Ethernet computer interfaces, the IET800 module panel has two Ethernet ports. Currently, only the RJ45 connector labeled CH0 on the front panel of the IET800 module is supported and must be used. In this case, no terminating device is required.
